The Context and Objectives
Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is a flagship programme of the Government of India with a vision to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy and implements the “Faceless, Paperless, Cashless” concept of Digital India.
Activities
- It enables easy and quick transfers between different bank accounts through a simple mobile phone based authentication process without the need for cards or bank details.
- It powers multiple bank accounts into a single mobile application (of any participating bank), merging several banking features, seamless fund routing and merchant payments under one hood.
- It allows for mobile payments without the need for cards or bank details, making it convenient and safe for users.
