Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs)

The Context

Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) is a generic name, which means and includes farmer- producers’ organization for leveraging economies of scale in production and marketing of agricultural and allied sector. FPOs will enable farmers to enhance their bargaining power, leverage economies of scale, reduction in cost of production and enhancing farmers’ incomes through aggregation of their agricultural produce, thus playing a major role towards sustainable incomes.

Objectives

  • To act as an aggregator for member farmers including from inputs to outputs which will enhance the economy of scale and bargaining power of member farmers.

Activities

  • Government provides support for collection/sorting/grading/packing facilities for the harvest of FPO members.
  • Supply of quality inputs like seed, fertilizer, pesticides, etc.
  • Undertaking value addition like cleaning, assaying, sorting, grading and processing of agri produce.
