India and São Tomé and Principe (STP) enjoy warm and friendly relations since its independence in 1975. Recognizing the pioneering role played by India in promoting South-South Cooperation and its significant contribution in international peace-keeping, Sao Tome and Principe announced its support for India to become a permanent member of an expanded UN Security Council. STP has also given written confirmation of support for India’s UNSC non-permanent membership for the term 2028-29. STP has also signed the framework agreement on International Solar Alliance (ISA) on 8 February 2018 and ratified the same. The framework agreement on Cooperation in the Exploration and Uses of Outer Space for peaceful purposes was signed between the two countries on 7 September 2018.
