Cameroon

Relations between India and Cameroon have been friendly and cordial. The Cameroonian leaders appreciate India’s contributions to Africa, its secular democracy and economic progress and the leadership it provided to the Non-Aligned Movement. Cameroon actively supported Indian candidature for the Commonwealth Secretary General. The High Commission of India in Cameroon has been established in September 2019.

Cooperation to tackle the challenge of COVID-19 Pandemic

Govt. of India has provided 174000 Paracetamol tablets to Govt. and people of Cameroon during COVID-19 pandemic. GoI has provided 391200 doses of made in India vaccines to Cameroon under Covax scheme to assist in their fight against Covid 19 pandemic.

Capacity Building & Other Exchanges

  • 3rd Round of Foreign Office Consultations were held in Yaounde in August 2023. The Indian delegation was led by Shri Sevala Naik Mude, Additional Secretary (C &WA), MEA.
  • India's cooperation with Cameroon is Growing in the field of Defence. 143 training slots have been allotted to Defence Force personnel of Cameroon for the year 2024-25 under India's ITEC programme.  In the year of 2023-24. all the defence slots under ITEC were fully utilized
  • 17 scientists and scholars from various universities in Cameroon have been awarded with prestigious CV Raman scholarship during the year 2023-24.
  • 3 students were awarded the prestigious DBT-UNESCO-TWAS Sandwich Postgraduate Fellowship at the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee and Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute, Kolkata.
  • 3 Cameroonian students were awarded ICCR Scholarship to pursue Graduate and post graduate course in India.
  • India has been supporting Cameroon’s efforts in capacity building under Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme since 1964. India offers 32 training slots under ITEC to Cameroon annually and during the year all the slots were utilized.  3 slots have been allocated to Cameroon under the Africa Scholarship Scheme of ICCR.
  • Consequent to the third India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS-III) held in New Delhi in October 2015, India has been offering additional training programmes to Cameroon in diverse subjects ranging from Agriculture to Hydropower. In 2017-18, 4 Cameroonians have been trained under India-Africa Forum Summit-III (IAFS-III) Programmes in the prominent training Institutes in India.

Development Cooperation (Grants/ LoCs/ Assistance)

  • Commissioning of the newly constructed 225KV Ahala-Abong-Mbang line and the 225/90 transformer station at Abong-Mbang-Mambang
  • US$ 42 Million Cassava Plantation project is complete and would be commissioned shortly.

Cooperation in New and Emerging Area

A Triangular Development Cooperation Project involving GIZ (Germany), UHSB (India) and IARD (Cameroon) for the pilot project in Cameroon on Potato Seed Production through Rooted Apical Cuttings (RAC) Technology was implemented. This project has been a big success. The successful completion of this project will further enhance cooperation in the agricultural sector.
